“Vampire’s Kiss” started with the 1988 Nicolas Cage movie, but I wasn’t interested in retelling it. I wanted to take its obsession and delusion somewhere else: what if the vampire’s bite wasn’t a curse, but an offer to take everything you’ve been carrying?
A NEON HYMN
“A Neon Hymn” started with a bass line and a picture of a roller rink in my head. From there it became a song about movement, distance, letting things end, and continuing forward with somebody else.
BEYOND THE SAND AND THE FEVER DREAMS
“Beyond the Sand and the Fever Dreams” started while I was learning Serum and became a song about love, mortality, and the strange comfort of imagining that the person you built your life with might somehow still be there at the end.
FROM THE SUN TO THE SEA
“From the Sun to the Sea” was the second song I ever wrote. I was still learning Logic Pro, figuring out synthesizers, and discovering what Prophets of the Cosmic Darkness was going to become.
