Timmy Wakefield is an American musician, songwriter, producer, and founder of Prophets of the Cosmic Darkness, an independent synth-pop and dream-pop music project founded in 2025.
Based in South Florida, Wakefield writes, records, and produces music that combines synthesizers, atmospheric textures, electronic rhythms, and pop songwriting. Prophets of the Cosmic Darkness began as a personal creative project and has since developed into an expanding catalog of original music exploring love, loss, memory, anxiety, desire, and the strange spaces between darkness and optimism.
TIMMY WAKEFIELD
Wakefield began Prophets of the Cosmic Darkness in 2025 at the age of 38.
Unlike a traditional band formed through years of playing together, the project began primarily as a studio endeavor. Wakefield writes and develops songs from his home studio, often building them from a single bass line, synthesizer part, melody, rhythm, or idea before allowing the rest of the arrangement to develop around it.
His approach emphasizes instinct over technical perfection. Some songs develop over long periods of experimentation, while others are written and recorded rapidly when an idea takes hold.
That process has resulted in music ranging from energetic synth-pop to slower, dreamlike compositions, while maintaining the atmosphere that defines Prophets of the Cosmic Darkness.
Prophets of the Cosmic Darkness
Prophets of the Cosmic Darkness is Wakefield's primary music project.
Founded in January 2025, the project draws from synth-pop, dream pop, synthwave, electronic music, and alternative pop without being confined to a single genre.
Wakefield serves as the project's primary songwriter and producer, writing and recording much of the material himself while collaborating with other musicians when a song calls for it.
Prophets of the Cosmic Darkness has released a growing catalog of original singles including “Divine,” “Marry Me,” “I Said, ‘Dance!,’” “Dreamwave,” “Vampire's Kiss,” “Blood on the Dance Floor,” and “Nothing,” alongside interpretations of songs by other artists.
For Wakefield, the project is less about fitting into a particular scene and more about creating music that feels emotionally honest.
From the Navy to Music
Before Prophets of the Cosmic Darkness, Wakefield served in the United States Navy, including work in public affairs.
That period of his life exists in public Navy records under his name, years before he began releasing music as Prophets of the Cosmic Darkness.
His path into creating music professionally came later in life. Rather than beginning with the expectation of becoming a career musician, Prophets of the Cosmic Darkness emerged from a need to create.
The death of a friend became one of the events that pushed Wakefield to stop treating music as something he might eventually pursue and begin making it seriously.
At 38, he started the project.
That late beginning has become an important part of its philosophy: there does not have to be a correct age, career path, or timeline for making something meaningful.
Songwriting & Production
Wakefield writes and produces primarily in Logic Pro, combining software instruments, synthesizers, electronic percussion, vocals, effects, and occasional contributions from collaborating musicians.
Songs often begin with very little.
A bass line. A chord progression. A synthesizer sound. A phrase. A feeling.
From there, Wakefield builds arrangements around the emotional character of the original idea rather than beginning with a predetermined genre.
This can make individual Prophets of the Cosmic Darkness releases sound markedly different from one another while still belonging to the same project.
The common thread is atmosphere.
Dreamlike, strange, melodic, occasionally abrasive, sometimes playful, and often dark without surrendering entirely to darkness.
Why “Prophets of the Cosmic Darkness”?
The name reflects the contradiction at the center of much of Wakefield's music.
Darkness and beauty can exist simultaneously.
A song can be melancholic and euphoric. Something frightening can also be beautiful. Love can feel enormous and mundane at exactly the same time.
Prophets of the Cosmic Darkness lives somewhere inside those contradictions.
An Independent Artist
Prophets of the Cosmic Darkness is an independent music project.
Wakefield maintains direct involvement in the songwriting, recording, production, visual identity, artwork, videos, website, and release process surrounding the project.
That independence is intentional.
Rather than designing music around social-media trends or attempting to manufacture an online personality, Wakefield's focus remains on building a body of work: songs, recordings, visuals, and ideas that can exist beyond a temporary algorithm or platform.
