T-LOG 0002 - SAYLOR TWIFT
Memory
Saylor Twift was the ninth track I wrote for Album I.
I clearly remember the moment the intro came together. I had this visual in my head of a retro roller rink—neon lights, slow spins under a mirror ball, everything bathed in that nostalgic glow. There wasn’t really a narrative attached to it yet, but the opening arpeggio immediately pulled me in and gave the song its momentum.
From there, I began shaping a synth pad to sit underneath the arpeggio and give the track some atmosphere. Once that texture started to form, I moved into an A minor chord followed by a B diminished, which gave the song its slightly uneasy, dreamy tone.
For the drums, I programmed the kit in Logic Pro, which is usually how I build the rhythmic foundation of my songs. The base came from the CR-78 electronic drum machine, but I spent time modifying the sounds to give them more lift and presence. The result kept the retro character of the kit while making it feel more alive in the mix.
I actually wrote most of the track while my husband was away in Washington, DC on a week-long business trip. Those evenings turned into long studio nights, slowly shaping the song piece by piece. By the time he returned, I was excited to finally play it for him.
Some songs arrive all at once. Saylor Twift was different—it unfolded over several late nights, guided mostly by a feeling and a sound I couldn’t get out of my head.
Meaning
I’ve struggled with sleep issues since my time in the Navy, and it’s something I still deal with today. Saylor Twift grew out of that experience.
The song explores the strange space created by certain sleeping medications—those nights where you fall asleep quickly but wake up with no memory of what happened in between. The next day there are small clues scattered around the house: objects moved, lights left on, things slightly out of place. You know time passed, but it’s fragmented. The song is meant to move through that disorienting feeling.
There’s also a more personal side to it. When my husband and I take sleeping medication at the same time, I like to imagine that we meet each other somewhere in a shared dream. In the morning we can’t remember anything about it, but the feeling remains—that somehow we were together there.
The title has its own story. I’ve never really considered myself a Taylor Swift fan. One night while we were out to dinner, a song came on that immediately caught my attention. It had this indie synth-pop sound that felt right in my lane. I assumed it was a new track from CHVRCHES. It turned out to be “Anti-Hero” by Taylor Swift featuring Bleachers.
That moment stuck with me. After spending years saying I wasn’t a fan, I had to admit that she’s an exceptional songwriter and performer. Naming the track Saylor Twift felt like a small nod of appreciation—and a slightly tongue-in-cheek way of acknowledging that I was wrong.
Lyrics
Now you've got your way
Just wanna feel your face
Lookin' back at me
I know we're meant to be the same
If I'm late, don't let it go to waste
Not lookin' back to find myself again
It's time but you're late
I think you know
I'll be there
Here we go fading into the endless night
Please don't run 'cuz we can't hide
Here we go fading into the endless night
Please don't run 'cuz we can't hide
How do we know the way
In this majestic place
Starin' back at me
But I know we'd rather be in the flame
We decay
Don't let it fade away
Not lookin' back to find myself again
It's time but you're late
I think you know
I'll be there
Here we go fading into the endless night
Please don't run 'cuz we can't hide
Here we go fading into the endless night
Please don't run 'cuz we can't hide
Now, we've been this way
And I still wanna feel your face
Calling out my name
But this time you're gonna stay with me
In this place
No need to leave in haste
Not lookin' back to find myself again
It's time but you're late
I think you know
I'll be there
I said, Dance
I said, Dance
Here we go fading into the endless night
Please don't run 'cuz we can't hide
Here we go fading into the endless night
Please don't run 'cuz we can't hide
Here we go fading into the endless night
Please don't run 'cuz we can't hide
Here we go fading into the endless night
Please don't run 'cuz we can't hide
